Stress…The Silent Killer

Stress…The Silent Killer

The stresses in today’s society play a powerful role in our health. We may not realize how many of our health problems are stress related. While very difficult to avoid, especially with our busy life styles, it’s important to step back, breathe and find ways to calm ourselves from stressful situations in life. Instead of relying on medication that may not be necessary, let’s use the most underutilized form of medicine…Exercise. Not only will exercise release the happy hormone called endorphins, but it’s a great way to take out aggression. Stress can ruin relationships, jobs, lead to inflammatory issues and just make us feel terrible.

Chronic stress can lead to various mental disorders, physical illness and chronic diseases such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Insomnia
  • Weight gain
  • Cognitive Impairment
  • Gastrointestinal Issues
  • Alcohol/Drug Addiction
  • Fertility Issues
  • Physical Illness

Indications of acute stress:

  • Jaw tenderness
  • Acne
  • Skin irritations
  • Painful PMS symptoms
  • Disturbing dreams
  • Sugar cravings
  • Headaches/migraines

Ways to help relieve stress:

  • Exercise
  • Writing things down
  • Talking/letting feelings out
  • Doing things you enjoy/hobbies
  • Meditate
  • Yoga
  • Massage
  • Breathing exercises
  • More sleep
  • Family/friends support
  • Positive thinking

We can all agree that we would like to feel better! As you may know, it takes 30 days to form a habit – good or bad.

I challenge you to try a few of these techniques mentioned above for 30 days. If you’re up for the challenge, let me know so we can monitor positive change together.
